In Memory of SGT Jeremy Wright
SGT Jeremy Wright, age 31, of Shelbyville, Indiana, died January 3, 2005 in eastern Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb near Kabul. SGT Wright was assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group, Fort Lewis, WA.
Two other soldiers were seriously wounded and taken to a military hospital in Germany.
SGT Wright joined the Army in 2002 and was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. He was a Special Forces communications sergeant assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group. SGT Wright's military awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, and Combat Infantryman Badge.
He was a 1992 graduate of Southwestern High School in Shelby County,
Indiana. He attended Wabash College on a four-year academic
scholarship where he won seven Indiana Collegiate
Athletic Conference distance running championships. He graduated
from Wabash College in 1996 with a chemistry degree and with honors. He later moved to Vail, Colorado
where he continued his pursuit of athletics in long distance running and
snowshoe competition. He had also completed course work for his
