In Memory of SSG Matthew A. Kimmell




Staff Sergeant Matthew A. Kimmell, 30, of Paxton, Indiana, died in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, on October 11, 2005 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV.  Kimmell was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Kimmell graduated from Faith Christian School in Carlisle, Indiana.  He attended Vicennes University before enlisting in the National Guard.  He later served for three years as an Army Ranger.

He left the service and worked as a sheriff's deputy for three years in Vanderburgh County, Indiana.  Later he re-enlisted in the Army and underwent Special Forces training.

He leaves behind a wife - Melissa.
