In Memory of SSG Paul C. Mardis


SSG Paul Mardis died on July 15, 2004 of wounds suffered on May 20, 2004 in Iraq.  He was a member of the 5th Special Forces Group stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

SSG Mardis was wounded near Mosul, Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee vehicle.  He was treated in Iraq, Germany, and then at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

He was an engineer with 5th SFGA.  He joined the army in 1998 as an infantryman and served with the 101st Airborne Division.  In 2001 he became a member of Special Forces.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.  He was 25 years old.  He leaves behind a wife.
